The money scam is this: He would send you the money and then be like "oh no I accidentally sent too much, can you send $x back to my account?" or "hey, I sent you some extra, would you mind buying $x in gift cards and giving me the numbers?" or something. You'd send him the requested money or gift card numbers. But within a few days, the money he sent to you would be clawed back (probably because it was fraudulently obtained, like using a hacked account) and you would be left with -$x. It's quite the pivot on that guy's part, though, to move so quickly from the book marketing scam to the money mule scam!
This would be unbelievable if it wasn’t a “real” conversation. Your book reviews with your daughter, however, are delightful.
