So… on the last episode of Literal Literary Loser, I explained how it happened that, after 17 books in print, I now find myself without an agent or a publisher.
Which, naturally, begs the question: Where do we go from here?
Am I going to look for a new agent?
Yes.
Have I already started?
Yes.
Have I already been turned down? (Some politely, some less so? )
Yes.
Am I going to look for a new publisher?
Yes.
Am I going to consider smaller options in addition to the Big Five?
Yes.
Have I already been turned down? (Some politely, some less so?))
Yes.
But here is what else I am going to do: I am going to focus on my back-list.
I have quite a substantial one, but I’ve been ignoring it in favor of promoting “The Nesting Dolls,” my most recent release.
One title in particular seem ripe for a resurgence: My Figure Skating Mystery series.
Originally published as paperback original by Berkley Prime Crime from 2002 to 2006, in 2014, I re-released all five installments as e-books. But since reading about figure skating isn’t as much as fun as watching figure skating, I also included professional skating videos from The Ice Theatre of NY as part of the story.
In 2014, I promoted the books by producing Dick Button’s live Twitter coverage of the Olympic Games and plugging my books during the commercials. (That wasn’t stressful at all. I’m sure the case of shingles I got right afterwards was a complete coincidence.)
This year, I’ll… think of something equally as clever.
Stay tuned to find out what that might be.
