The Really, TRULY Hardest Part of Being a Writer

I realize I’m being frustratingly inconsistent.
I’ve said that the hardest part of being a writer is finding an agent. And losing an agent. And finding another agent. And losing that agent.
I’ve said that the hardest part of being a writer is finding a publisher. And losing that publisher. And finding another publisher. And losing that publisher.
I’ve said that the hardest part of being a writer is figuring out whom to listen to when it comes to making changes in your manuscript. (I ultimately came down on the side of only listening to those who give you money.)
And I’ve said that promotion and marketing are actually the hardest part of being a writer.
I was wrong.
The hardest part of being a writer is figuring out what to wear to your book launch.
Especially when you’re me. And fashion is… very, very much not your thing.
So what did I do? I listened to my own advice. I turned to the people who might one day give me money. I.e. my potential readers.

Who knows, by then I may decide that the really, really and truly hardest part of being a writer is something else entirely.
