'Go On Pretending' Publication Day! (So What Do I Do Now?)
A Literal Literary Loser Loses the Plot
It’s May 1! That means “Go On Pretending” is officially available for purchase, download, and review. (Don’t forget to purchase, download, and review!)
For the past year, all of my attention has been focused on this day. (Oh, it’s also College Commitment Day. My youngest is off to college. Yay. Good for her. I’ll get right to that. As soon as I’m done with this.)
I’ve done everything I could think to make sure my book makes a splash. I’ve done interviews. I’ve written guest blogs. I’ve plastered social media. I’ve annoyed you all here with my incessant blathering.
And now it’s May 1. “Go On Pretending” is officially available for purchase, download, and review. (Don’t forget to purchase, download, and review!)
So what do I do now?
First thing in the morning, I got on Facebook to make the announcement that “Go On Pretending” is officially available for purchase, download, and review. (Don’t forget to purchase, download, and review!) I did the same thing on Instagram. (I even learned how to share my stories there. My daughter is so proud. She’s off to college in September, as you may have heard. Which means I’m losing my social media manager.)
I reminded folks about tonight’s soap opera chat with The Locher Room, and Saturday’s book launch - in-person and online - at My Biblioteka in Brooklyn. (Come! Join us! I promise to be scintillating. And if I’m not, well, at least there will be savory Soviet snacks.)
You remember that old army recruiting commercial: We do more by 9 AM than most people do all day? (I remember Frasier, on “Cheers,” asking, “And that’s a selling point to you?”)
It’s 9 AM.
What do I do now?
Oh, I have things to do. A few more “Go On Pretending” guest posts to write. I have my day job of covering soaps for Soap Hub, and an expose to put together on New York City’s latest education debacle. (It involves time travel. Intrigued? Good… stay tuned for that one.)
Plus, there are my parenting obligations. (Did I mention my kid was committing to college today?) And my household obligations. There’s laundry to be folded, and dinner to be cooked.
But all of that feels somehow, I don’t know… anticlimactic?
For over a year, May 1 and “Go On Pretending” becoming officially available for purchase, download, and review (don’t forget to purchase, download, and review!), has been looming so large in my consciousness, that I couldn’t think of anything else. (Well, outside of the laundry, and dinner, and my kid’s college application process, and my other two kids, and my husband, and my parents, and NYC’s time traveling education plan - still intrigued? Good!)
Now that the big day is finally here, to just go on — Ha! See what I subliminally did there? It was an accident. I didn’t realize it until I’d read over this post for the third time — with my life as if everything were normal feels wrong. I feel like I should be doing something more momentous to mark it.
Then again, the laundry won’t fold itself.
Your ideas for commemoration welcome.
Until then, please consider joining me in The Locher Room tonight, or at My Biblioteka on Saturday.
And if you can’t, but are still dying to hear me go on and on about how “Go On Pretending” is officially available for purchase, download, and review (don’t forget to purchase, download, and review!), then please enjoy this chat with Soap Hub!
Happy May Day, everybody!
Congratulations! Also, what's for dinner?
